Alex Trebek Returns to ‘Jeopardy!’ While Battling Cancer

“Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek is back at work a week after revealing that he is battling   stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

The 78-year-old announced the shocking health news last Wednesday in a heartfelt video in which he vowed that he was “going to fight this,” and would “keep working.” True to his word Trebek was back at it on Tuesday to continue production on the beloved quiz show.

“We are taping today, and Alex is here and behind his lectern as scheduled,” a spokeswoman for the show said Tuesday, according to CNN. Usually there are two grueling production days a week for “Jeopardy!,” which sees multiple episodes taped in a row from a stage on the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City, California.

Since 1984, Trebek has been the face of “Jeopardy!” and has refused to slow down since. He has bagged five Daytime Emmys and earned 28 nominations, USA Today noted. He even set a Guinness World Record in June 2014 for hosting the most episodes of a game show- 6,829 in total.

Last year Trebek  extended his contract through 2022 despite suffering health ailments. In December he underwent surgery for blood clots after suffering a fall but even then, he didn’t disappoint the 24 million viewers who tune in each week to watch the quiz show.

In his video last week, Trebek said that usually the prognosis for stage 4 pancreatic cancer was “not very encouraging.” However, he was determined not to let it overcome him.

“With the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease,” he said, according to Pop Culture.
