BTS’ Jungkook Covers Oasis on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge

Jungkook, who hails from K-Pop band BTS, made his solo debut on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge on 20 July, and surprised fans with a quirky cover. The 25-year-old began his live performance with a rendition of his infectious new solo single “Seven”. Jungkook thrust listeners into a summer vibe with the catchy new bop, which was released on 14 July.

The star then went onto perform a cover of Oasis’ “Let There Be Love”, a very British choice that was perhaps more unconventional than we were expecting. Giving the track a slightly more sombre tone, the song began on the piano before guitars and violins joined in with Jungkook’s stellar vocals.

Presenter Katie Thistleton dubbed the cover as “quite emotional”, and it’s easy to see why. The singer carried all the emotion of the track throughout his cover, and gave listeners all the feels. “Did y’all hear that cover of the Oasis track. Tears came to my eyes,” wrote one fan, while another added: “Jungkook’s voice is so BEAUTIFUL AND ANGELIC.”

This isn’t the first time that the singer has graced listeners with his presence in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. BTS previously performed on the prestigious show in 2021 where they performed their tracks “Dynamite” and “Permission To Dance”, as well as covering Puff Daddy and Faith Evans’ “I’ll Be Missing You” which samples The Police’s “Every Breath You Take”.

The BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge has long-provided a platform for artists to share intimate performances of their own songs, and covers of fellow BBC Radio 1-favourite artists and classic British hits. The likes of Harry Styles, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift, and Coldplay have all taken to the show to provide listeners with exclusive renditions.

Following Jungkook’s performance, the K-Pop superstar sat down for a conversation with presenters Thistleton, Richard Haywood-Williams, and Melvin Odoom. “I have been waiting to [greet] my fans with this song, and I’m here,” Jungkook said following the performance. “I know how much love and support you’re presenting me,” he added.

Jungkook also hinted about a BTS reunion, as they are currently on hiatus while members of the band take part in mandatory military service. “I can’t wait to perform on-stage with all our BTS members,” said Jungkook.
