They might have had a tumultuous time in the villa before being crowned the winners of “Love Island” 2022, but Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu and Davide Sanclimenti are proving they are the real deal. On 15 Aug., Cülcüloglu revealed the couple are moving in together this September. Speaking to presenter Christine Lampard on “Lorraine”, she said the pair will be moving to Essex, where she is from, meaning Sanclimenti will be relocating from Manchester where he currently lives.
Cülcüloglu couldn’t stop gushing about her boyfriend and says that life outside of the villa has “brought us a lot closer.” She continued: “We just trust each other and, like I said in the villa, without trust there is no foundation.” Despite Cülcüloglu chatting with “Stranger Things” star Noah Schnapp on Instagram, the winning couple are stronger than ever. So much so that ITV2 has even commissioned a new show where they both travel to their native countries, meeting families in Cülcüloglu’s Turkey and Sanclimenti’s Italy. This is certainly just the start for the loved-up couple.
On 1 Aug, host Laura Whitmore announced the result from inside the Majorcan villa as the two split the £50,000 prize money.
Gemma Owen and Luca Bish came in second place, followed by Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope in third and Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page in fourth. It has been a roller coaster of a summer for the Islanders. There was unexpected exits, epic performances by the likes of Becky Hill and Joe Corry, and hilarious editing blunders. The Casa Amor section in the middle of the series rocked the foundations of all couples as there was cheating, secrets, and an infamous under-the-bedsheets quote, but the four couples who made it to the final came through all the challenges and stood at the end in strong relationships.
Cülcüloglu and Sanclimenti have been TV gold this summer — and it looks as though their reality TV reign will continue. They might have got off to a difficult start, with Cülcüloglu even crawling onto the terrace to kiss bombshell islander Jay Younger in secret. After a monumental argument, even with sounds of Sanclimenti calling Cülcüloglu a “liar” reverberating around the villa, the two couldn’t stay apart for long. Passionate kisses and constant bickering have seen them win the hearts of the nation, and their epic candlelit final date with singer Alfie Boe serenading them topped off their romantic journey.
The couple seem to be on solid ground right now, but winning the series does not always mean relationship success. While some former couples have stood the test of time, others like “Love Island” 2021 winners Millie Court and Liam Reardon called time on their relationships, which proves it’s not always the official winners whose love succeeds in the end.
This series of “Love Island” had not been without its troubles. There wer Ofcom complaints about misogynistic behaviour, ableist abuse aimed at Ghouri, and concerns around the visibility of Black Islanders. While there are changes that need to be made to the format of the show and a strategy to tackle viewers whose opinions cross boundaries on social media, “Love Island” continued to dominate summer evenings.
The sun might have set on “Love Island” 2022, but it’s definitely not the last we’ll see of the pair who won the nation’s hearts.
