Peckham’s Finest is a brand new TV show from ITV, and it’s all about Black South London. It’s been described as “SE15’s answer to Made in Chelsea — and honestly, it’s about time that more diverse Londoners were accurately represented on-screen.
Following the success of Channel 4’s Black to Front day, and shows like Highlife, it’s clear that the demand is there, and it’s now the responsibility of TV networks to respond. The show comes from the makers of The Masked Singer, and it’s set to follow an aspirational group of young people from the area, focusing on their love lives, friendships, career moves, and more.
In an attempt to modernise the reality TV genre, the show will feature a mix of professionally shot footage alongside snippets of the cast’s social media content. The cast itself will also shine a light on a number of professions in the creative industry, and it’ll include a BMX coach, Radio DJ, fashion boutique owner, dance teacher and choreographer, body positive coach and influencer, drag performer, barista, street food chefs, a DJ and promoter, and a salon owner.
On the series, ITV2’s commissioning editor Peter Tierney said that “This is a project we are all hugely excited to be making. With a truly authentic, unique and diverse cast, the series will reflect life in Peckham in a way that our viewers can engage with and relate to. It promises stories full of warmth, humour and drama, told in a really contemporary way.”
Peckham’s Finest will land on ITV2 on 20 Oct.
