Sure, we may not be Olympic medal winners, but regardless we are definitely going to knit a medal cosy for an imaginary one. Tom Daley, Olympic champion and knitting extraordinaire, has posted a tutorial on how to make a medal cosy on his hugely popular knitting and crocheting Instagram account @madewithlovebytomdaley, and we’re officially inspired.
“MAKE A MEDAL COSY WITH ME!” Tom captioned the Reel tutorial. “I made this one on my way to Plymouth! The original was done using intarsia but it is so much easier and quicker with duplicate stitch! ❤️🧶🇬🇧🇯🇵. I used paintbox simply chunky and 5mm needles for this one! @paintboxyarns”, he added.
During the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, the UK became pretty obsessed with seeing Tom’s creations from the stands. He knitted everything from a dog jumper, medal cosy, and, of course, his iconic Team GP cardigan (which singer Griff later wore for her Olympic Homecoming Performance). Tom’s hobby started at the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdown and seems to have served him well during period of spare time at the Olympic games. “Learning to knit and crochet has helped me so much through these Olympics,” Tom explained on his Instagram.
BRB, we’re off to get our knit on.
