Where the Love Island Clothes Come from

[ad_1]

If you’re expecting tight-fitting dresses and white skinny jeans on Love Island 2022, you are in for a style treat. This year, the reality TV series has ditched its usual fast-fashion sponsors in favour of eBay in a bid to promote pre-loved fashion, and each Islander will receive a treasure chest of capsule items and handpicked pieces as they arrive in the Majorcan villa.

Celebrity stylist Amy Bannerman, who has previously styled stars including Dua Lipa, Jonathan Van Ness and Sophie Turner, has scoured the site to find the best pieces. She showcased the items to this year’s line-up before they left for their summer of love, revealing that one of the girls “screamed with joy” at the site of the vintage designer pieces.

On arrival, the Islanders will be receiving a gift box of classics, including pre-loved denim shorts, luxe white t-shirts and pieces they have had on their wishlists for a while. Bannerman told of how one of the boys said he always wanted a Prada bucket hat, so it was sourced for him through eBay. While swimwear is not included in the partnership, we are already imagining the pieces the Islanders might add to their poolside look when they need to pull someone for a chat.

For the first time there will also be a shared wardrobe of key pieces for the Islanders to pick from, including customised cropped Levi’s jackets, Moschino little black dresses and printed Prada shirts. While there’s an obvious sexy aesthetic running through the trends, the Islanders are being encouraged to mix and match the pieces with their own suitcases to show their individual style and personality more than ever before.

Bannerman has expertly divided the clothing into four key trends. There is ‘blurred lines’ which sees a blurring of gendered dressing with oversized men’s shirts for the girls and more feminine hues for the boys. ‘Love me forever’ is all about investing in classic pieces that will last a lifetime. ‘Y2K’ is already one of the biggest trends of the season and this one takes inspiration from the Britney Spears double denim era. And ‘dopamine dressing’ embraces all that is bright, bold and fun.

“We’ve mixed in vintage and 80s, and within the themes we’ve tried to tick off everything we think they’d like. Latex, and supporting lots of different brands and styles,” Bannerman said. “In past seasons it has been quite same-y – tight clothes, colourful dress – but now the islanders can wear things that are completely different to showcase their own unique styles.”

Sourcing clothes from well-known brands to lesser-known designers on eBay, we can’t wait to see how the Islanders will style themselves this year. Breathing new life into the “Love Island” wardrobes can only be a good thing, and opening a conversation on sustainable shopping habits is a positive step in the right direction. And if it puts a stop to white spray-on skinny jeans, then we are all for it.
