Awards season continues, and on 17 Jan., the nominations for the EE Rising Star Award at the Baftas was announced and we have to say, we can’t call the winner. The prestigious list includes Aimee Lou Wood, Naomi Ackie, Emma Mackey, Sheila Atim, and Daryl McCormack, who have all been singled out as they “have each demonstrated their remarkable talent in film over the past year, having captured the imagination of both the public and film industry alike.”
While the nominees talents are undoubtedly huge, with big films including the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “Emily” among their repertoire, there is a “Sex Education” award-off happening. Both Wood (who plays Aimee Gibbs) and Mackey (who plays Maeve Wiley) have received nods for their acting work.
The Rising Star Award is the only one voted for by the public, so we have a big decision on our hands. Last year’s winner was “No Time to Die” star Lashana Lynch, who appeared in “Matilda the Musical” and “The Woman King” in 2022. Voting is open on the EE website, and the winner will be announced at the ceremony on Sunday, 19 Feb. The show will also be presented by actor Richard E.Grant and TV treasure Alison Hammond as the night will honour the film industry, and no doubt provide us with plenty of laughs.
